Job summary:
As a global sustainability solutions provider, South Pole works with clients in public and private sectors to build solutions for a sustainable society and economy. The Compliance Market team sits in a business line responsible for sourcing carbon projects, developing them and bringing resulting certified carbon credits to market.
The team is seeking a data analyst to join our Compliance Market team. This role is central to our mission of sourcing and developing high-impact carbon projects by providing the analytical backbone for our global pipeline and understanding of market trends to drive strategic decision making. You will be responsible for transforming complex market data and project metrics into actionable insights, helping the team identify emerging risks, commercial opportunities, and future market offerings. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between technical carbon project data and commercial strategy, ensuring our origination and monetization decisions are data-driven and forward-looking.
The data analyst collects, cleans, and interprets complex datasets to provide actionable insights, creating reports and dashboards to support decision-making. auditing data quality, and improving data systems.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
Data Collection & Cleaning: Gather data from various sources (internal systems, web scraping) and clean it to ensure accuracy, and integrity.
Analysis & Modeling: Track technical shifts and developments across pipeline and market. Perform analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights, as well as , risks and opportunities for South Pole's "Certificates" business line.
Visualization & Reporting: Prepare high-quality analytical reports, briefs, and data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
Data Management: Liaise with our digital team to assist in improving design of data systems for evolving market and company needs. Recommend improvements to data systems, enhance data collection efficiency, and create automated workflows.
Knowledge management: Maintain and continuously improve internal data tools, dashboards, and knowledge resources.
Requirements:
Essential profile requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, Environmental Science, Economics or a related quantitative field.
2-4 years of professional experience in carbon markets in a relevant fields
Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to perform complex data analysis and policy evaluation
Proficiency in data analysis, risk metrics, environmental or financial modelling
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel) and Google Suite applications, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-time zone environment and convey complex data to diverse audiences.
Desirable profile requirements
Fluency in English.
Proficiency in cloud computing and programming languages like Python or R, JavaScript, is highly valued for automating market analytics.
