South Pole is an energetic, global company offering comprehensive sustainability solutions and services. With offices spanning all continents across the globe, we strive to create a sustainable society and economy that positively impacts our climate, ecosystems and developing communities. With our solutions, we inspire and enable our customers to create value from sustainability-related activities.
Our Project Sourcing team works hand in hand with project owners and developers, active in the carbon markets and renewable energy space, to identify, negotiate and contract new emission reduction projects. By acquiring new projects within our portfolio, we ensure that South Pole always has the right mix of carbon credits available to meet the demands of our clients. If you’re an ambitious and dynamic sustainability professional with a strong passion to make a real difference in the fight against climate change, this position may be right for you!

The Senior Specialist focuses on identifying and developing emission reduction project leads and opportunities in the Latam region. You will support the full business development cycle for Sustainable Technologies (ST), Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). You will play a key role in operationalizing project sourcing in priority countries—including Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Brazil, and Colombia—ensuring a steady pipeline of high-quality leads. This involves supporting the team from initial lead identification and "cold calls" through to technical data collection and preliminary risk assessment.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
Lead Origination: Initiate business development for carbon credits and ITMOs, focusing on the five priority countries and the wider Latam region.
Opportunity Identification: Identify and research new project leads for both NbS (e.g., reforestation, blue carbon, soil carbon) and ST (e.g., energy efficiency, biogas, cement).
Technical & Due Diligence Support: Assist the Technical team by acquiring necessary information for the comprehensive evaluation of project risks and eligibility.
Research & Analysis: Conduct deep-dive research into project developers, regulatory regimes, and national policies related to carbon and biodiversity in focus countries.
Commercial Support: Draft initial contracts and commercial proposals to move opportunities toward deal closure.
Relationship Building: Establish and grow relationships with potential partners through professional networking and targeted outreach.
Database Management: Maintain and update the global Salesforce database, ensuring all leads and project information are recorded accurately.
Reporting: Support the preparation of presentations and reports for management regarding project performance and pipeline status.
Requirements:
Education: University degree in Economics, Engineering, or Environmental Management.
Experience: At least 6+ years of relevant experience in business development or partnership management.
Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of Article 6, carbon standards (VCS, GS), and NbS project types.
Skills: Excellent communication in English and Spanish; Portuguese is highly desirable. High performance in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Distribution of tasks: 90% Business Development & Article 6/NbS tasks, 10% administrative tasks.

About South Pole
Our story began in Zurich, with 5 friends* in 2002. They had a belief and a vision to shape and change the future of the world through climate empowerment, education and projects with their non-profit organisation; MyClimate. These ‘social entrepreneurs’ went on to pioneer climate change with the introduction of South Pole in 2006*. More than 20 years on, with the support of some of the most passionate and talented entrepreneurs around them, who are empowered to all play their part and with their founding belief in aligning purpose with passion, people and profit, they have created South Pole, an organisation that has gone onto positively impact the lives of over 20 million people across the world through its projects, saving over 20,000 km2 of forests from deforestation.
