Main tasks & responsibilities:
Dispute Resolution & Risk Management
Manage and oversee litigation and pre-litigation matters involving the company across multiple jurisdictions.
Working with General Counsel and key stakeholders to develop and implement litigation strategies that align with the company’s objectives and risk tolerance.
Support legal strategy and settlement negotiations for disputes involving contractual and commercial issues.
Coordinate with external counsel and monitoring litigation expenses to ensure cost-effective legal representation.
Advise senior management and business heads on potential litigation risks and outcomes, providing strategic guidance to mitigate legal exposure.
Working with the Critical Response Team in managing reputational risk, particularly regarding media coverage of South Pole’s projects.
Represent the company in mediations with external parties, including project partners across multiple jurisdictions.
Privacy and Data Protection
Provide legal guidance on compliance with data protection regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy laws applicable to the business.
Monitor evolving privacy laws and regulations and assess their impact on company policies and practices.
Support the development and implementation of privacy policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard data.
Work closely with stakeholder teams to ensure data protection best practices are followed across the organization.
Support the data security teams on investigations of potential data breaches and data extractions, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to manage breach responses and notifications in accordance with applicable laws.
Coordinate with external legal counsel and experts when needed, managing relationships with third parties.
Stakeholder and External Engagement
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business objectives and provide legal support that facilitates informed decision making.
Engage with external parties, including regulatory bodies, industry specific standards/groups and external counsel to represent the company’s legal interest in managing risk and compliance issues.
Contract Negotiation & Drafting
Review, negotiate and draft contractual provisions with key stakeholders to mitigate risks.
Prepare a variety of legal documents, including disclaimers, pleadings, and settlement commercial contracts.
Develop precedent bank of documents for dealing with commercial breaches and disputes (such as delays, non-payment and settlement) as part of streamlining processes and improving efficiency.
Compliance, Regulatory & Training
Prepare and deliver training and development to internal teams on key compliance and legal issues.
Support the marketing and communications teams by reviewing promotional materials for regulatory compliance.
Assist the IT and HR teams in responding to data breaches and ensuring legal compliance with data protection laws.
Work on developing marketing and compliance projects.
Attend board meetings, providing legal insight and ensuring accurate documentation through minute-taking.
Requirements:
Essential -
Qualified lawyer with at least 4+ years experience in commercial disputes. (Experience in ESG regulations and corporate risk management, is a plus.)
Confident in drafting a wide variety of legal documents from pleadings to contractual clauses in a commercial and litigious context, particularly in cross-border transactions.
Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple workstreams, and handle urgent matters efficiently.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience liaising between legal, commercial, and regulatory teams.
Delivering legal training and compliance programmes.
Prior exposure to working in fast-paced, multi-jurisdictional environment.
