By working closely with project owners and developers as well as their local communities, we manage the complete registration, verification and evaluation of carbon projects to enable the issuance of emission-reduction certificates, in line with official carbon standards. Job summary:
As a Regional Lead in the Technical team for Sustainable Technologies (ST) Climate Projects, your main responsibility will be managing a portfolio of carbon projects. These projects focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, methane, community-based, green hydrogen, CCUS (Carbon capture, utilization, and storage), biochar, and environmental certificates like IRECs. Your key role will involve overseeing the entire cycle of carbon project development in LATAM and ensuring that emission reductions are generated and delivered efficiently and on time. You will be working on projects that aim to promote carbon credits and accelerate global climate action, which will span voluntary and compliance markets as well as Article 6.2 and 6.4.
You will ensure project implementation as agreed while delivering high-quality deliverables such as project documents and monitoring reports. You will participate in business rounds, technical sessions, site visits, and other relevant events. Reporting to the Regional Associate Director, you will ensure timely issuance of credits throughout all stages of the project cycle, while adhering to budgetary constraints and maintaining clear and effective communication with project partners. In addition to leading, you will coordinate efforts with other technical collaborators within the ST technical team. You will also support the regional commercial team and project-sourcing activities to assess incoming opportunities.
Your success in this role will depend on your ability to ensure the highest quality standards across South Pole’s ST projects while managing internal and external relationships. You will support the relationships with project partners, standards, regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and other relevant entities. You will also participate in on-site visits (as necessary) to gain firsthand insights and ensure project alignment with operational realities.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the technical, financial, and administrative aspects of ST projects within the LatAm pipeline, ensuring the completion of all project cycle steps, from due diligence to commercial agreement, listing, validation, verification, emission, and commercialization.
- Ensure compliance with all aspects defined by corresponding national or international certification standards (e.g., Gold Standard, VERRA, and national or local standards), as well as South Pole’s project development and implementation policies and guidelines.
- Implement financial and budget planning, fieldwork logistics, resource scheduling, communication strategies, risk analysis, and quality protocols to develop ST projects.
- Oversee compliance with commitments to partners associated with ongoing ST projects, while monitoring progress and adhering to schedules.
- Support and coordinate with the commercial team in the technical assessment and business development of leads and opportunities brought into the pipeline as well as support in the development of consultancy proposals and deliverables.
- Proactively identify and report risks related to technical, social, and financial aspects of the ST projects to the Technical head offering feasible solutions promptly.
- Adhere to internal policies and procedures regarding the use of our internal project management tool for maintaining general information, milestones, and cash flow, ensuring harmony among all stakeholders involved in the organization (e.g., accounting, registries, project managers, HR, commercial teams, and other internal and external stakeholders).
- Assist Technical head in preparing reports, presentations, and strategic documents.
- Act as a key point of contact in managing project partners, nurturing relationships, and maximizing value from opportunities.
- Managing invoices for approval and payment on time.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to emission reduction and carbon market projects.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to address project challenges and drive innovation.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the climate project teams, encouraging knowledge sharing and skill enhancement. Including these responsibilities can help ensure a comprehensive overview of your role.
Requirements:
Essential -
- University degree in Environmental, Energy, Sustainability, or fields related to Climate Change and Carbon Mitigation.
- At least 5 years of experience in project management within the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable energy, waste to energy, Methane avoidance (Community-based projects like cookstoves, and water filtration is an advantage).
- Maintain a transdisciplinary and holistic approach to support ST projects effectively.
- Demonstrate the ability to tackle diverse assignments, applying company policies, processes, and procedures to resolve complex project-related issues independently, while making informed decisions.
- Possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written documents, particularly demonstrating proficiency in both verbal and written English and Spanish.
- Display capacity to handle multiple activities simultaneously, coordinating multiple projects concurrently according to company and project requirements, while maintaining high standards in terms of time management and quality of work.
- Manage ST projects effectively, focusing on planning and monitoring, particularly emphasizing technical and financial aspects, while adopting a transdisciplinary approach to team management.

Desirable -
- Possess knowledge and experience in ST project management and environmental credits markets, including carbon, along with familiarity with local and international certification standards.
- Have prior experience conducting local stakeholder consultations is an advantage
- Familiarity with accreditation standards and requirements, particularly those related to carbon offsetting and climate action initiatives such as ICVCM’s CCP, CORSIA, and ICROA
- Exhibit experience in utilizing budgeting and financial planning tools and understanding related concepts.
- Display proficiency with MS Office applications, particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Google Suite.
- Demonstrate adaptability and versatility in adjusting to changing conditions and varying team compositions.
- Possess the ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.
