Job summary:

Reporting to the Head of Global HR, the Senior Manager, Learning & Development is a key member of the HR team, and is responsible to drive South Pole’s learning and development agenda forward. To do so, you will work closely with the HR Business Partners, business leaders and broader HR team to understand our main L&D challenges, as well as evolving business needs, and build breakthrough L&D solutions that will enable South Pole to excel as a high-performing organisation.  

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Drive global learning and development solutions to meet the evolving needs of our growing business 
  • Work closely with HR Business Partners and business leaders to identify our main challenges and needs in the field of L&D  
  • Build world-class L&D processes, programs and tools that will enable South Pole to efficiently support employees to enhance key skills that will enable high performance and career growth   
  • Drive the creation of career pathways for all of our business units and functions  
  • Design and facilitate workshops with the different business functions to identify key competencies and skills required for success, and embed these into all our HR processes  
  • Train managers and employees on how to build effective, actionable and measurable Individual Development Plans  
  • Create and rollout a L&D manual for employees  
  • Identify and drive the implementation of enhancements to our internal system to allow for efficient development planning  
  • Identify training needs across functions and work with HR Business Partners and business leaders to define the most impactful and business-efficient solutions to address these 
  • Establish partnerships with learning institutions   
  • Be the main point of contact with external training providers and coordinate the efficient design and implementation of training initiatives  
  • Identify key L&D metrics and report regularly on these to enable meaningful business-driven decisions  
  • Build and manage graduate programs and other internal development programs to fast-track the growth of high-potential employees  
  • Be part of our internal training team as a South Pole Trainer to help design and deliver trainings to our colleagues worldwide, including our Leadership Development Program  
  • Design and rollout learning sessions to our employees on a variety of L&D related topics  
  • Lead our internal Talent Review and Succession Planning processes  
  • Partner with HR Operations and IT to identify and implement a learning management system/platform to support an effective management of learning and development initiatives  
  • Contribute to building and improving our culture, performance management, employee engagement, employee recognition, etc. processes with valuable inputs from the L&D perspective 


  • University degree in a relevant field of study  
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in an HR role, of which at least 4 years in learning & development 
  • Experience designing L&D tools and processes, such as career pathways, training programs, learning solutions, etc.  
  • Innovative and resourceful thinker, who is able to define effective solutions to global L&D challenges in the context of a fast-growing organisation  
  • Hands-on approach, who can identify opportunities and swiftly build solutions  
  • Good planning and analytical skills, to conduct gap analysis, identify areas of improvement, build action plans and drive it through to implementation  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders  
  • Proficient English oral and written mandatory  
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced high-growth global organisation
