Job summary:

The purpose of this role is to lead South Pole’s Information Technology function. In this challenging leadership role, you will develop and continually update a vision for South Pole’s internal business systems strategy in alignment with the South Pole international business strategy. Through your vision and leadership, you will inspire our multifaceted teams (IT infrastructure, DevOps, data, and applications) to deliver strong value to all our internal users. You will bring together technologies, capabilities and outstanding talent to provide systems and solutions that find high user acceptance, and that will enable South Pole to take the next quantum leap in our growth journey. You will be responsible for identifying opportunities for optimisation of our systems and services through constant improvement and innovation while also providing consistent delivery and stable operation of systems.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead, define, implement, represent and communicate the global Information Technology strategy and closely align with the organisation’s goals and objectives 
  • Define the standard for excellence in business systems management in our organisation 
  • Moderate discussions and partner closely with business leaders and functional heads to understand their strategy and according needs 
  • Make “build-or-buy” recommendations to ensure that all South Pole’s systems constantly respond to the evolving needs of our growing business 
  • Drive innovative ideas, solutions and products through leadership and decisive action 
  • Lead, manage and mentor several global teams focused on IT infrastructure, product managers, developers and programmers 
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance and direction to the teams 
  • Establish goals and KPIs, assess development progress and evaluate results 
  • Build high-performing teams and efficient processes to deliver products that satisfy the needs of internal customers 
  • Applying risk-management processes to the IT department, including identifying, assessing, managing, and reporting IT-specific risks such as privacy, security, and business continuity  
  • Applying the technology infrastructure across the enterprise to help other management to identify, assess, manage, and report their risks 
  • Own and manage the global Information Technology budget and 5 year strategic plans 
  • Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to empower matrixed teams that deliver on our vision for our tools and systems. 



  • Post graduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field 
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of relevant work and leadership experience in similar or related roles 
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to establish a compelling vision for our Information Technology function that enables South Pole to maximise efficiency and productivity of our global teams in a growing and competitive market environment 
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand the specific need for our internal client and translate these into effective systems and solutions
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills to partner effectively with key internal stakeholders in order to jointly design innovative solutions that meet their needs 
  • Proven experience in project managing the successful delivery of an ERP system  
  • Strong quantitative skills and the ability to use data and metrics to inform decisions
  • Experience managing cross-functional, diverse, remote and global teams of developers, product managers and IT supporters 
  • Experience in comprehensive systems’ innovation and development 
  • Advanced skills and accountability in successfully establishing goals and KPIs, as well as defining and managing resources accordingly (budgets, timelines, people, etc.) 


  • Experience in building, consolidating and growing a global IT function
  • Experience in or passion for environmental issues and understanding of sustainability, CSR and related topics
