The Fund Management team is responsible for developing and managing sustainable impact funds, as well as other facilities, vehicles and platforms for investments in climate action. Our scope of expertise covers a variety of topics related to sustainable land-use, low-carbon energy, climate-smart cities and/or clean technology, to name just a few. If you are a smart, ambitious and dynamic sustainability professional with a strong passion to make a real difference in the fight against climate change, the below position may be right for you!

Job summary:

Do you have experience in fundraising, a passion for the environment and a high level of enthusiasm and positivity? This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic organisation with strong vision, and play a key part in a growing team.

Working closely with and reporting to the Associate Director of Fundraising, you will support the fundraising team in building and developing relationships with foundations and public-sector agencies, securing new income for South Pole’s climate impact funds and multi-stakeholder action platforms. You will also be responsible for a portfolio of funder accounts, working to develop and deliver long term, high-value strategic partnerships. Philanthropy partnerships enable South Pole to carry out its mission to accelerate the transition to a climate-smart society.

In 2021, our ambition as a fundraising team is to deliver EUR 3 to 5 million of funding from the philanthropic and public sector for funds and platforms that address investment barriers and accelerate climate action. Using your excellent organisational and networking skills you will support the team with accurate and timely grant and account management, while stewarding relationships with both current and prospective new funders.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  •  Support the Associate Director of Fundraising in researching, writing and monitoring applications for a broad range of foundations and other grant giving institutions, packaging programmes into innovative ‘asks’ that meet the criteria of the funder.
  • Proactively build strong relationships with your portfolio of prospects and donors, developing cultivations plans and creating opportunities to maximise income and ongoing support while leading on grant-management, contracting and reporting.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure monitoring and evaluation meets the requirements of funders and conditions of all funding are complied with.
  • Build strong relationships with other teams within the organisation including the Funds & Platforms team in order to understand the work and projects and identify and build compelling cases for support.
  • Support with researching, identifying, and approaching prospective new funders and provide insights and inputs for the development of the wider fundraising strategy.

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Relevant work experience (the expectation is a minimum of 2 years including internships) in fundraising, preferably with a focus on foundations and/or public sector income streams.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with proven expertise in structuring persuasive cases for support and creating high-quality written fundraising applications and reports.
  • Experience of obtaining and/or managing funding partnerships with foundations including understanding their needs and developing highly personalised relationships.
  • Demonstrable experience of maximising opportunities from researching prospects to generating meetings, and securing 5 and 6 figure donations to achieve targets.
  • Knowledge of current fundraising methods, best practices, and fundraising tools/technology (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Ability to work independently, managing own time, deadlines and priorities.

  • Able to find pragmatic solutions, seek improvements, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Outstanding relationship builder and networker both internally and externally.
  • Positive “can do” attitude and willingness to support others where needed.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Autonomous yet collaborative approach to work.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for climate action and sustainable development.

  • Good understanding of or experience in environmental sustainability and/or sustainable development.
  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential funders such as foundations or public sector stakeholders.
