Regional Commercial Director - North America

Job summary:

As the Regional Commercial Director, you will drive business and grow South Pole’s presence in North America, one of the fastest growing markets for South Pole’s climate solutions. You will be combing effective commercial management with overall regional responsibility. You will establish the regional go-to-market strategy, define the regional annual budget and be accountable for the business performance of North America. In addition, you will work in tight collaboration with our implementation and marketing teams to develop and market our solutions and seize opportunities associated with climate change. To achieve this, you will lead, develop, inspire and grow our passionate team in a dynamic and fast paced working environment 


Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive business performance in the North American region by defining and implementing the regional go-to-market strategy and ensuring South Pole have the resources and ability to deliver the results
  • Translate South Pole’s product offerings into a coherent and localized business strategy for North America
  • Directly lead, develop, coach and inspire a fast growing team holistically
  • Lead and drive the identification and creation of new business opportunities to grow South Pole’s market presence, negotiate and close deals with existing and new clients, and coordinate deliverables with our implementation team
  • Identify cross functional gaps in our product offerings in North America, by collecting market feedback in a structured way, and proactively addressing  these, in close collaboration with the implementation and marketing teams
  • Partner closely with South Pole's project development teams to ensure a close alignment between North American market demands and the company's existing portfolio of carbon credits / RECs
  • Partner closely with the marketing team to identify target clients, assess market opportunities and focus the business development efforts in line with regional and global strategy
  • Establish the regional annual budget in collaboration with the business line heads of South Pole's many sustainability offerings
  • Oversee the timely development of  commercially sound and compelling offers and proposals, in close collaboration  with our product experts and consultants
  • Take accountability for concluding commercial agreements with clients and business partners
  • Engage with corporates in the region regarding our entire climate solutions product offering and provide inputs to our practice leaders and product developers to support  the development of new solutions
  • Represent South Pole in client meetings, at events, conferences and trade shows
  • Inspire clients, partners and employees to accelerate the fight against climate change



Requirements:

Essential -

  • University degree in Environmental Sciences, Business or other relevant discipline
  • Senior commercial or business development leader with at least 12 years of relevant experience in sales roles, of which at least 5 years in a people management capacity
  • Working experience in sustainability, or at least strong understanding of the most important pledges and drivers of the demand for climate action from corporates
  • Sound knowledge of at least one of the following topics: renewable energy,r carbon markets, corporate responsibility, sustainable development or climate change
  • Strong network of companies in the North America region, especially among the Fortune 500
  • Proven track record in establishing stretch targets and holding self and team accountable for, meeting or exceeding them
  • Proven track record in relationship building and negotiation with customers, and relevant associations
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills to build relationships and partner effectively with both clients as well as internal stakeholders
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand the specific needs of our clients in a fast-growing competitive market and translate these into compelling solutions that are commercially sound
  • Proven track record of managing cross-functional, high-performing, diverse, teams and successful experience in leading a team and achieving strong sales results through them
  • Outstanding leadership skills, with the ability to inspire action and get the best out of people
  • Highly result-driven and action-oriented with a strong drive for success and impact
  • Strong perseverance and determination to engage new clients
  • Experience in budget development and management

  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Experience in scaling up a fast-growing teams in the context of a highly competitive market environment
  • Strong financial and planning skills, with experience leading strategy and budgeting processes at regional level
  • Experience in sustainability and/or carbon market and/or renewable markets
  • Strong quantitative skills, with the ability to use data and metrics to draw conclusions and inform decisions
  • Comfortable operating globally in a fast-paced high-growth international environment
