Our Portfolio Management team oversees and develops business for the sale and trading of carbon credits. By working collaboratively with both our internal Sales and Projects teams, we play a crucial role in balancing the demand and supply of certificates, in order to best match the needs of our clients with our sourcing capabilities. Job summary:
The Senior Manager of Carbon Management is responsible for the strategic management of all Carbon Management functions including both the Registries Inventory and the Trades & Retirement teams. The Sr Manager will work closely with Carbon Portfolio Management Lead in order to support strategy development and execution regarding South Pole’s portfolio of credits. The tasks and priorities of this role will continuously evolve to match both South Pole’s internal strategies and external market opportunities in regards to the portfolio of carbon credits.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Management
- Directly manage the 'Trades & Retirements' and 'Carbon Inventory' sub-teams of the Carbon Management pilar
- Coordinate and improve the efficiency, processes, and risk reduction across sub-teams
- Design and coordination on new tools useful for management’s transparency in Carbon Management processes to support more efficient strategy design.
- Strategy
- Work closely with Carbon Portfolio Management Lead to represent the Carbon Management team across South Pole to support the organization’s strategy. Examples of these tasks include:
- Client marketplace products - technical design and contract negotiation
- Coordinating the engagement of new carbon registries and credit types as required
- Coordinating with the Carbon Portfolio Offering team to develop new carbon products while ensuring that the deliverables are feasible from a registries perspective.
- Products could include different packaging of credits, timelines of deliverables (reservations, options), client registry account management, etc.
- Work closely with Finance and Legal to manage Carbon Management strategy across South Pole owned entities
- New registration and alignment of South Pole registered business entities across registry accounts.
- Coordinate closely with Operations team to manage user accounts and compliance registration across third party registries
- Swiss Registry coordination
- Additional CER Registries
- Work closely with Carbon Portfolio Management Lead to represent the Carbon Management team across South Pole to support the organization’s strategy. Examples of these tasks include:
Requirements:
Essential -
- Comfortable in leading the strategic direction for a team to continuously increase efficiency and effectiveness of the Portfolio team
- Comfortable working in a nascent team to lead on strategic tasks and priorities that will evolve over time
- Comfortable working in an international position that works with teams across all regions and time zones
- Strategic business acumen
- Experience managing direct reporting lines
- Strategy development and execution
Desirable -
- Experience working directly with third party carbon standard registries (Gold Standard, Verra, CDM)
- Higher-level accounting familiarity (inventory valuation, audits)
- Familiarity with legal agreements
