Our Project Sourcing team works hand in hand with project owners and developers, active in the carbon markets and renewable energy space, to identify, negotiate and contract new emission reduction projects. By acquiring new projects within our portfolio, we ensure that South Pole always has the right mix of carbon credits available to meet the demands of our clients. Job summary:
As part of the Strategic Expansion and New Ventures team, the role will primarily support the Climate Projects business line in making strategic decisions on regional expansions and market entry into specific carbon project technologies. This role will be focused on collecting market intelligence and data to facilitate South Pole’s informed decision to move into new ventures. This will include the analysis of opportunities related to new country offices, new carbon project technologies and certificates business. You will play a key role in the team responsible for researching new markets, establishing successful market entry strategies and leading successful implementation. You will have the opportunity to manage projects and research that will directly impact South Pole’s growth trajectory.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- New market intelligence: collect and analyse data on new markets in order to determine the viability for South Pole’s Climate Project’s business in various new markets and countries
- Produce action-oriented reports, on topics such as market entry economics, competitive analyses and recent market developments in the relevant target country or technology for expansion
- Identifying red flags in the markets early on and work together to remove roadblocks
- Coordinate internal stakeholders in the pilot acceleration and implementation (Carbon technology leaders, Regional Directors, Operations and Finance) in order to build the new operations from the ground up
- Turn data into actionable insights that can support and drive impactful business decisions
- Understand business needs, strategies and regulatory requirements and consider them when building business cases models
- Communicate results and influence key business leaders
- Create high-quality and engaging data visualisations that effectively communicate complex datasets to key internal stakeholders
Requirements:
Essential
- University degree in Business Administration, Economics or Finance or any other relevant discipline
- Several years of relevant experience working involving deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions analysis or project finance preferred
- Awareness of various commercial structures i.e join ventures, services
- Strong quantitative skills and the ability to use data and metrics to inform decisions
- Demonstrated interest or skills with commercial transactions and business acumen
- Comfortable working with an international and multicultural teams
- Jack-of-all-trades mindset, ready to jump in on any challenge that might arise
- Highly analytical thinker
- Professional proficiency in English language skills, both oral and written
- Basic knowledge of carbon credits and markets
Desirable
- Professional proficiency in one or more other languages is a definite plus
- Experience in Mergers and Acquisition
