The Climate Investment team is responsible for developing and managing sustainable impact funds, as well as other facilities, vehicles and platforms for investments in climate action. Our scope of expertise covers a variety of topics related to sustainable land-use, low-carbon energy, climate-smart cities and/or clean technology, to name just a few. Job summary:
The role of the Senior Investment Manager is to oversee the set up and management of a new financing vehicle that invests in high-quality carbon credits in the land use space. You will manage a small team of technical experts and act as the main point of contact for clients. Furthermore, you will take a significant role in portfolio pipeline sourcing and valuation, including project due diligence, negotiating investment agreements and portfolio management; ensuring that any investment maintains commercial viability and measurable impacts as required by the specific mandate.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
- Oversee the management of a new land-use fund focussing on carbon projects.
- Pipeline development, project assessment, due diligence, and preparing investment memos for the investment committee
- Where appropriate, identify technical assistance needs and manage the implementation of related tasks
- Executing investments and portfolio management, supported by several legal and technical specialists in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context
- Support the Key Account Management team in fundraising, actively contributing to the business development activities of the company
- Organize client-facing events and meetings, speak about relevant topics and represent South Pole and its services
Requirements:
Essential
- University degree in finance- and/or sustainability-related field
- Extensive experience in fund management, sustainability consulting, grant/investment management, or other related fields
- Excellent management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context
- Proficient writing skills, with proven expertise in creating and reviewing high-quality written documents
- Advanced stakeholder and client management skills
- Deep understanding of environmental sustainability challenges, ideally in the land use space
- Demonstrable commercial skills and good business sense so as to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment
- Excellent oral and written skills in English
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Desirable
- Working experience in developing countries
- A Master’s degree would be an advantage
- Working knowledge in carbon markets
- Profound experience in Google Suite applications and MS Word
- Diligent, reliable and proactive
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment
- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills
