Our Project Sourcing team works hand in hand with project owners and developers, active in the carbon markets and renewable energy space, to identify, negotiate and contract new emission reduction projects. By acquiring new projects within our portfolio, we ensure that South Pole always has the right mix of carbon credits available to meet the demands of our clients. Job summary:

South Pole mitigates the impact of climate change by developing high quality emission reduction projects and consultancy mandates all over the world. These projects are developed under international as well as national carbon standards such as the ISO, CDM, VCS, Gold Standard as well as Swiss FOEN standard, PURO etc. In this role you will focus on the successful and efficient development and implementation of Swiss compliance and voluntary emission reduction projects. As a Junior Project Coordinator, you will be contributing to the carbon markets of tomorrow by implementing and managing these projects with access to direct client relationships in Switzerland and the DACH region. Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Provide support in assessments and review of incoming leads for emission reduction projects
  • Supporting the development and preparation of such projects for certification and registration with the Federal office for the Environment (FOEN)
  • Focus will be on Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs), timber construction, plastic recycling, wastewater treatment, mobility and opportunities in the agricultural sector
  • Participate in the implementation and management of these emission reduction projects in Switzerland, including drafting project design documents, validation, monitoring and verification support under the Swiss national carbon schemes and international standards
  • Support business development activities, including the development of proposals for new clients and managing business relationships with project owners, cooperatives and auditors
  • Assist with market research on emerging new topics in the sustainability sector and provide support with project sourcing



  • A Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, Agronomy, Forestry, Economics or sustainability-related disciplines 
  • Relevant work experience of minimum 1 year (incl. internships) 
  • Excellent analytical competency with Excel and other analytical tools and, as an advantage, experience with project finance 
  • Proficient in German and English 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with a can-do attitude 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced international environment


  • Previous greenhouse gas related experiences with at least one of the following: NETs, timber construction, plastic recycling, wastewater treatment, mobility or agriculture
  • Knowledge of carbon products and markets would be strong plus, preferably including one or more of the following: 
  • Project-based carbon standards (CDM, VCS etc.), technologies and project development processes, global carbon and/or reporting standards (e.g. CDP, GHG Protocol)
  • Ideally, you already gathered knowledge in technical carbon dioxide removal projects, such as Direct Air Carbon Capture & Storage (DACCS), Bioenergy Carbon Capture & Storage (BECCS), Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) with biogenic CO2 sources including CO2 mineralisation, and occasionally non-technical removal technologies such as biochar or certain soil carbon interventions
  • Proficiency in French is considered an asset
