Our Project Development team is at the forefront of developing and managing climate mitigation activities. By working closely with project owners and developers as well as their local communities, we manage the complete registration, verification and evaluation of carbon projects to enable the issuance of emission-reduction certificates, in line with official carbon standards. Job summary:

The purpose of this role is to support South Pole’s communication and coordination with the global climate change and sustainability standards and platforms/schemes, along with leading the development of new baseline and monitoring methodologies. In addition, you will be focused on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects and methodologies.

You will be responsible for coordinating any advisory business with such standard bodies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) linked to the regulatory sector. Furthermore, you will be in charge of knowledge management and communication over South Pole’s ongoing and relevant methodologies used to quantify and verify the impacts.

You will be accountable for informing and updating the company and internal counterparts from different teams, especially project development and the portfolio management teams, on the latest status on standards, carbon schemes/platforms, and applicable methodologies.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Represent South Pole towards the standard bodies on matters related to methodologies, project registration/validation, issuance/verification rules, guidelines, and tools
  • Coordinate with the project development team on technical/methodological and admin topics related to project registration/verification processes of carbon schemes and sustainable standards daily
  • Lead the communication to the secretariat and technical committees of the standards
  • While acting as the project team focal point to the standard bodies, always inform and coordinate with the different teams within South Pole on matters related to climate policy and voluntary/compliance market regulations
  • Coordinate project/methodology-related communication/clarification with the standard bodies with at least one regional project head, including any preparation and coordination on methodological advisory opportunities with such bodies
  • Proactively lead and support the ISO certification topic with the projects head and portfolio, including any initiative South Pole needs to handle to shape any new platform or standard product, e.g. Grow Europe tree plantation project, amongst others
  • When needed, support the project heads and project managers (PMs) to perform technical checks on the projects in line with standard expectations and communicate any clarification required
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing in regards to standard rules and updates
  • Always coordinate our strategies both on internal and external operations with the Senior Operations Manager of the unit



  • Master degree in Energy Engineering, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Sustainability, Climate Change or Carbon Mitigation related fields
  • At least 5+ years of work experience in climate change, preferably with experience in project management and development of CDM, VERRA and Gold Standard projects and methodologies
  • Profound understanding of GHG emission reductions standards, GHG emission reductions projects and methodologies
  • Strong capacity for methodology development and previous experience in methodology approval processes
  • Experience in the implementation of GHG emission reductions projects, including industrial sectors, energy industries, waste management, transport, etc., with a very high level of independence
  • Knowledge of different types of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) technologies is considered an advantage
  • Track record of project development
  • Solid project management skills
  • Ability to analyse and structure complex problems and formulate solutions
  • Ability to create high quality written deliverables in English
  • Enthusiastic in approaching potential new clients, generating new business opportunities, closing deals, and meeting customer needs
  • Strong analytical skills, good pitching skills
