Job summary:

South Pole’s environmental impact accounting and climate neutrality services are growing at pace to help meet increasing demand from our clients. Across the business, an exciting transformation towards increased digitalisation of our services is underway, helping us to deliver climate solutions at pace and at scale. We are now recruiting for a dedicated  Climate Impact Tool Lead to help drive this transformation within our environmental impact accounting practice.

The goal of the Managing Consultant - Climate Impact Tool Lead role is twofold 1) to coordinate the implementation of our Alaska Climate Impact tool which aims to automise the accounting of GHG emissions, target setting and intervention identification; and 2) to provide consultancy services with regard to environmental impact accounting and South Pole’s climate neutrality services to standardise and scale impact and set us up for strong growth.

You will proactively lead the Environmental Impact Accounting (EIA) consultancy team in its application, development and implementation of our Climate Impact Tool Alaska. Alaska has just been launched, it is in its testing phase with external clients but requires further internal coordination, fine-tuning,  and further development. South Pole has its own digital and IT solutions development team which has developed Alaska with strong input by the Consulting team. On behalf of the consulting team, you will continue to lead the close collaboration with our IT solutions team. You will ensure and coordinate the applicability of the tool towards client needs, its continuous update in terms of input data sources, and its extension to new modules and/or services. Right now, the tool focuses on carbon related impacts but is soon to be extended to other environmental impacts. You will provide technical guidance to the IT solutions team on both GHG accounting, respective standards and claims as well as potential implications for other impact accounting. You will also coordinate the go to market strategy and business model behind the tools services in coordination with our SF Configure Price Quote Team. At the same time, you will be fully accountable for the development and overall management of proposals and mandates on EIA accounting and for the implementation of such projects, for which you will supervise project teams of varying sizes.  

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise standard EIA accounting (mostly focussed on GHG accounting) and related consulting mandates throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure.
  • Plan and implement EIA accounting projects through our carbon footprint tool Alaska to ensure the most efficient and highest-quality implementation.
  • Proactively lead the integration of consultancy client needs into our Alaska tool and actively coordinate with our IT solutions/development team, including the coordination and management of various internal stakeholders. 
  • Develop proposals with the Key Account Management team and actively contribute to the standardisation of our EIA Accounting offering in business development 
  • Provide guidance on and technical leadership in the development of additional IT solutions, tools or Alaska modules for GHG Accounting, as well as lead their technical integration from the consultancy point of view.
  • Develop and improve specialised skills and knowledge linked to environmental impact accounting topics and services offered by South Pole.
  • Identify and determine processes and ways to standardise impact accounting and coordinate closely with our Marketing team on integration into our automated CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) Salesforce system.
  • Innovate our thinking on digitalisation of consultancy solutions and develop and potentially implement ideas for digital solutions within our offering
  • Lead and directly manage small teams of consultants in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context.
  • Support the development of South Pole’s thought leadership, services, products, knowledge sharing solutions and training sessions for internal and external audiences
  • Topics of engagement besides GHG and other impact accounting may include: climate change mitigation, Science Based Targets (SBTs), risk assessment and TCFD, materiality assessment, energy efficiency, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), renewable energy strategies, supply chain risks, water stewardship, plastics, climate neutral applications.  



  • University degree in engineering, environmental engineering and/or environmental science IT related or other energy-related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with environmental impact accounting challenges in the corporate sector.
  • Relevant work experience (the expectation is a minimum of 5 years) in IT consulting, or related energy/sustainability consulting field.  
  • Deep technical knowledge and capabilities in the following areas: GHG accounting in line with best practice methodologies; Carbon footprinting tools/software systems and LCA / Scope 3 emissions accounting
  • Experience in the development and IT integration of sustainability or carbon related tools/data management systems
  • Experience in stakeholder management and coordination of IT projects
  • Excellent project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide project teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context.
  • Client management and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrable commercial skills and good business sense so as to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


  • Knowledge about climate neutrality, the process, available certification schemes and standards  
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications and database management, Google Suite and programming, some languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL or VBA).
  • Familiarity with topics such as target setting (SBTs); disclosure (e.g. CDP, TCFD); benchmarking / materiality assessment; water stewardship; plastics are a clear plus.
  • Good working knowledge of all Google Suite applications and MS Word.
  • Diligent, reliable and proactive.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment.
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Experience reducing complex challenges to simple solutions.
  • Interest in climate change, environmental and sustainability issues.
