The Climate Risk & Opportunities team offers a world leading service partnering with multinational corporations, the financial sector and academia. We hold key expertise in understanding physical climate risks as well as transition risks and its opportunities - through deep sector knowledge, climate science expertise and technologies including cloud computing and AI methodologies. We partner with our clients to address governance, strategy, risk management and metrics & targets in line with TCFD (Task Force for Climate Related Financial Disclosure), implementing solutions that will ensure they can take effective mitigation and adaptation actions to seize future opportunities.

Job summary:

The role of the Transition Risk Lead is to build and develop innovative products so that our clients can address climate change transition risks. You will be leading a dedicated team of consultants taking full accountability for creating and implementing new services, tools and software solutions, in close collaboration with the practice lead.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead South Pole’s Transition Risks & Opportunities product development. 
  • As a senior subject matter expert, provide supervision, guidance and technical leadership in international consulting mandates and proposals.
  • Take the lead in the development of proposals for the corporate sector on TCFD (especially transition risks) and implementation of advisory projects, as well as lead their technical review.
  • Manage and supervise large/complex consulting mandates throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure.
  • Develop proposals with the Key Account Management team and regularly generate own leads, actively contributing to the business development activities of the company.
  • Develop and improve specialised skills and knowledge to integrate transition risk products into other solutions offered by South Pole.
  • Lead and directly manage small teams of consultants across practices and geographies.
  • Lead the development of South Pole’s thought leadership, services, products, marketing materials and offerings in relation to TCFD and the low-carbon transition.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Prior experience as a manager/team lead
  • University degree, ideally at a Master’s level or higher, in a sustainability-related field in Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Economics or other sustainability-related disciplines.
  • Deep knowledge of climate scenario analysis and the energy transition.
  • Experience in climate or financial modelling, product development, environmental sciences, sustainability consulting or related fields.
  • Consultancy experience for corporate clients in the following areas: Climate risks, Risk management, Energy transition, disclosure (e.g. CDP, TCFD).
  • Fluent in English

Desirable:

  • Industry-relevant connections, with a network of potential clients, collaborators and other relevant stakeholders
  • Advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, database management and programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL or VBA)
  • Strong project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide projects teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context
  • Solid writing skills, with proven expertise in creating and reviewing high-quality written documents (proposals and deliverables)
  • Demonstrable commercial skills and good business sense so as to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment.
